About Wynyard Transport
”Wynyard Transport is 100% family owned and operated being the last Tasmanian Milk Transporters on ou Wynyard Transport Pty Ltd has been a family owned business since 1942 and is 100% Tasmanian owned and operated. It was first established by Garth’s grandfather, Albert (Jack) Hutton, as AJ Hutton Transport - General Carrier and Livestock Cartage.
In October 1972 Garth’s father Ian went into partnership with Jack and changed the business name to Wynyard Transport Co. The business operated state wide.
Ian became the sole owner of the business in June 1988. He continued with his livestock cartage but also started carting milk from the Cadbury plant in Burnie to the Cadbury Hobart plant. Ian sold his livestock business in the 90’s and his business solely became with Cadbury.
In January 2008 Garth and his wife Briana bought the business from Ian and continued to operate the same contract for Cadbury under the name Wynyard Transport Pty Ltd. In July 2011, Garth and Briana expanded their business by buying out the other side of the Cadbury contract from Garth’s uncle Dale Hutton. This contract consists of farm milk collection which is then taken back to the Cadbury Burnie plant for processing. They also acquired from Dale a domestic and commercial water cartage business which covers the North West and West Coast of Tasmania. The commercial side of the water business also sees them freighting bottled water to distribution warehouses in the North of the State. Wynyard Transport Pty Ltd also sends their water tanker to the Mainland for their customers.
In late 2011 Wynyard Transport Pty Ltd tendered for the milk collection contract with the newly established Tasmanian Dairy Products milk plant in Smithton. They were successful in this application and operations commenced in September 2012. This involves collection of milk from farms covering circular head to Northern and North West Tasmania and return to factory for processing.
In March of 2014, Wynyard Transport Pty Ltd acquired the freight contract with Betta Milk. The contract sees them freighting the finished milk product along the North West Coast, Northern Tasmania and to Hobart.
